Opportunity:Financial Coaching

Date:12/15/2025 -

Agency:United Way Northwest Indiana

The ALICE population in Northwest Indiana faces a significant barrier to financial stability and homeownership. These are hardworking individuals and families who earn above the poverty line but still struggle to afford necessities. They are often:

  • Pay 30%+ of their income toward housing (often renting)

  • Lack emergency savings to handle unexpected expenses

  • Have credit scores that cost them hundreds of dollars more per month in mortgage payments

  • Don't have access to personalized financial guidance

  • Feel overwhelmed by the path to homeownership

The Gap We're Filling:

While our monthly Financial Wellness Workshops provide excellent education to groups of 20-30 participants, individual coaching is where transformation happens. Participants need:

  • Personalized attention to apply concepts to their unique situations

  • Accountability partners to stay on track between workshops

  • Emotional support during setbacks and challenges

  • Expert guidance to navigate complex credit issues and savings strategies

  • Someone who believes in them when they doubt themselves

The Impact:

Your coaching directly enables participants to:

  • Build emergency funds that prevent financial crises

  • Improve credit scores by 40-100+ points (worth $200+ per month in mortgage savings)

  • Reduce debt by thousands of dollars

  • Qualify for better mortgage rates and home loan programs

  • Move from renting to homeownership within 1-3 years

  • Break cycles of financial instability for their families

We coach clients on 4 metrics:

  • Debt Reduction

  • Credit Improvement

  • Increase Savings

  • Cashflow Optimizing

You will be assigned which of these areas you can help in by the program leader and based on your strength/knowledge level.
