Opportunity:Childcare Volunteer

  • Provide mothers as well as Children’s Department staff with assistance in childcare to promote opportunities to work toward goals and attend group sessions. Group is on Monday and Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30.


    Responsibilities:





    • Monitor children during group/shelter hours 








    • Plan and lead age-appropriate, trauma-informed activities. 








    • Ensure safety and respectful behavior between children.  








    • Offering emotional support. 








    • Working closely with advocates and Mom so everyone stays informed of the child’s needs.



    • Maintaining a clean, child-safe environment (sanitize toys, secure furniture, check supplies).

Opportunity:Client Services Assistant

Client Services Volunteers support survivors of domestic violence by helping staff provide a welcoming, compassionate, and organized environment. Volunteers assist with client intake, the crisis line, provide basic advocacy and support, and help ensure clients have access to needed resources and supplies.


Key Responsibilities: 


• Greet and assist clients in a trauma-informed and respectful manner.


• Support staff with client intake, orientation, and service coordination.


• Provide crisis support or referrals under staff supervision.


• Help clients access basic needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene items.


• Assist with maintaining client areas (organizing supplies, restocking, light cleaning).


• Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care and domestic violence awareness.


• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all agency policies and procedures.


Qualifications: 


• Compassionate, nonjudgmental, and able to maintain professional boundaries.


• Strong communication and listening skills.


• Commitment to confidentiality and survivor-centered values.


• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


• Completion of required volunteer orientation and DV training.


• Minimum age: [18+].


Commitment: At least four hours per week at a minimum of three months.

The Donations Team works as a whole to organize, sort, wash and distribute needed clothing to our survivors and non-residential clients.


Key Responsibilities: 


·         Receive, sort, and organize incoming donations (clothing, toiletries, household goods, etc.)


·         Ensure donated items are clean, safe, and appropriate


·         Restock shelter storage areas and donation closets as needed


·         Assist with seasonal drives and community donation events


·         Maintain a respectful, trauma-informed approach when interacting with staff, clients, and community members


Qualifications: 


·         Reliable, organized, and able to work independently or in a team


·         Comfortable with light physical activity and sorting tasks


·         Sensitive to issues of confidentiality and survivor safety


Schedule: Weekdays in the daytime or afternoon, and weekends.  


Opportunity:Meal Makers

Kitchen Volunteers help create a welcoming and nourishing environment for survivors and their families by assisting with meal preparation, serving, and kitchen organization. Their support ensures that clients have access to healthy meals in a clean, respectful, and safe setting.


Key Responsibilities: 


·         Assist with preparing, cooking, and serving meals for residents.


·         Help with food storage, organization, and inventory rotation.


·         Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas.


·         Wash dishes and ensure all utensils, appliances, and surfaces are properly cleaned.


·         Follow food safety guidelines and shelter policies.


·         Interact with residents and staff in a respectful, trauma-informed manner.


·         Notify staff of any food supply needs or safety concerns.


Qualifications: 


·         Friendly, dependable, and respectful of confidentiality.


·         Ability to follow directions and maintain kitchen safety standards.


·         Comfortable working in a team environment.


·         Must complete required orientation and training.


·         Food handling certification (if required by local regulations) preferred but not necessary.


Commitment: About 3-6 hours per week, Tuesday and Thursdays at 4pm.


 

Opportunity:Outreach Volunteer

The outreach volunteer helps the Development Department with spreading awareness, educating communities, and help to set up, organize and take down events. Our outreach volunteers make it possible to connect people experiencing domestic violence to our services and keep them safe.


Key Responsibilities: 


·         Represent the shelter at community events, resource fairs, and educational presentations.


·         Share information about the shelter’s services, programs, and crisis resources.


·         Help raise awareness about domestic violence, healthy relationships, and safety planning.


·         Distribute outreach materials (brochures, flyers, resource guides) in the community.


·         Assist staff with coordinating and preparing for outreach events and campaigns.


·         Build positive relationships with community partners, organizations, and the public.


·         Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy and safety of survivors.


Qualifications: 


·         Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.


·         Ability to maintain composure in sensitive or high-stress situations.


·         Commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered care.


Schedule:


The volunteer coordinator will send a schedule of monthly events. 

Opportunity:Neighbor Support Driver

Assist Adult Direct Client Services Department by providing transportation of clients to various appointments throughout the county as needed.


Responsibilities: 


Transportation for clients, to and from various appointments; such as, court and medical appointments, social service agencies (food stamp office, unemployment office, etc.), and other errands as indicated by Adult Direct Client Services Staff.


Requirements: 



  • -Completion of Volunteer Orientation/Training. 



  • -Valid driver’s license with State of Indiana. 



  • -History of a good driving record.

Upon request and/or as needed.
